Level 1 is an introduction to yoga for beginners. This safe class introduces
the fundamental principles of alignment, breathing techniques and relaxation.
Students will learn basic standing poses, and Sun Salutes. The emphasis
will be on strengthening and stretching the legs, back, and shoulders. This
class can be very beneficial for those who have shoulder, back, neck, and
knee difficulties.
Level 1-2 is for continuing students who have completed Level 1 or have practiced another style of yoga for six months. The focus will be on refining basic poses using alignment principles. The emphasis is on building endurance for level 2 and introducing more challenging standing poses and hip openers. This class will strengthen the core abdominals, upper body, and it will aid in opening the front and back body, releasing tension in the hips and lower back.
Level 2 is for continuing students who have completed at least two Yoga 1 sessions. Level 2 introduces a more advanced form of Sun Salutation and focuses on refining the standing poses, as well as more breathing and meditation techniques. It will cover revolving poses, more challenging sitting and back-bending poses, and inversions using Anusara Yoga principles of alignment. We focus on upper body alignment and strengthening; in preparation for inversions like handstand and forearm stand.
Reasonably
fit men tend to be stronger than women, but significantly less flexible.
Deep stretches to large muscle groups are easiest once the body is well
warmed-up, especially in Fall and Winter. We will learn vigorous yoga flows
with which to begin each class. We will explore many of the same poses covered
in Level 1 and 1-2 classes, and will also explore yogic breathing and relaxation
techniques.
This class is designed for those dealing with chronic pain associated with auto immune deficiencies. Gentle yoga and timed relaxation will be combined with restorative postures, yogic breathing, and deep relaxation to help restore regular pulse rhythms and initiate normal sleep patterns. Therapeutic yoga can reduce chronic muscle pain and structural alignment principles will help reduce joint and back tension.
